Derrick Scobey Announces Election Bid for Oklahoma County Clerk's Office:

Mr. Scobey is seeking first-time political office. He is committed to bringing transparency & accountability to the Oklahoma County Clerk's Office.

Oklahoma County---Derrick Scobey is a lifelong servant of the people. He has spent a significant amount of time trying to be a good steward of the position and places he has had the privilege of occupying. After observing the litany of issues directly connected to or created by the county, Derrick decided to enter this special election.

Derrick Scobey was born in Northeast Oklahoma City in 1967. His mother, DeLores Dement, was a homemaker, and his father, Roscoe C. Scobey was an Oklahoma City Police Officer from the early 1950s until his retirement in 1981 (Oklahoma County Deputy Sheriff from 1981-until his passing in 1985).

Derrick graduated from Douglass High School in 1985 and attended Central State University. In 1996, Pastor Scobey to relocated to the DFW Metroplex. During his almost 20 years in Dallas, he managed and grew multiple sales organizations and owned an automobile wholesale business in Collin County, Texas. During his 4+ year tenure as General Manager at one of those organizations in McKinney, Texas, he led a sales staff of 60 people. The company also had another 40 people in administrative roles.

He has been in ministry for over 25 years. In 2009, he planted a church in McKinney, Texas, focusing on cultural diversity. By 2012, he was selected as Senior Teaching Pastor & Pastor of Multi-Cultural Engagement at the 5,000-member First Baptist Church (FBC) in McKinney, Texas.

Under his leadership, he grew FBC's Restoration Venue from approximately 100 to 700 weekly attendees. On June 22, 2015, God called him to return to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and lead the Ebenezer Baptist Church (EBC).

Under his leadership, EBC has become a thriving church and has grown from 100 people to over 500. He has also developed strong partnerships with business leaders, non-profit organizations, community organizers, and politicians to leverage social, political, and economic capital to serve vulnerable communities across Oklahoma.

Derrick collaborates with World Vision to launch food drives, furniture, and school supplies giveaways. In conjunction with the OKC-County Health Department, he and EBC members host vaccination clinics for Oklahoma residents. Through this collaboration with World Vision, Ebenezer has distributed over $13 million worth of food, brand-new furniture, household supplies, school supplies, and PPE supplies to the residents of Oklahoma county and beyond.

(Black Liberated Arts Center), Criminal Justice Authority Citizens Advisory Board, and the Stephenson Cancer Center African American Cancer Research Community Advisory Board.

OKCPS Superintendent Dr. Sean McDaniel personally asked Derrick to serve on the Planning & Oversight Committee for the OKCPS Bond proposal. This 955-million-dollar bond passed with a super-majority vote of 62% of OKC voters.

Derrick was also personally asked by Clay Bennett (Owner of the OKC Thunder) to serve on the committee to have a $260 million bond to build a brand-new jail in Oklahoma County. This bond passed with nearly 60% of the voters saying "Yes."

In November 2021, Derrick stood and prayed peacefully in the middle of N.E. 23rd in front of the Governor's Mansion. He was arrested while praying that the Governor would grant a pardon to a death-row inmate who was scheduled to be executed the following afternoon.

Local law enforcement had already closed the road, so he was not impeding traffic, nor was he in danger. There were about 400 people present that night in protest of the scheduled execution, and the crowd was growing restless.

After Derrick was arrested, he turned and calmed the crowd and even requested that they disperse and go home. Less than an hour later, all 400 people had dispersed, and Derrick was the only one arrested. Later these misdemeanor charges were dismissed by Oklahoma County District Attorney David Prater “In the Best Interest of Justice”.

"We need someone in this Oklahoma County Clerk's office to steward it well. I hope to move into this office and send an unambiguous message on day one that I do not work for the county; I work for the people. We need transparency, we need organization, and we need community buy-in. For years I have bridged communities, businesses, organizations, ideologies, and all to create progress. I want to bring that to the County Clerk's office".
